Area The difference between the Present Perfect Simple (I've
done it) and the Past Simple (I did it) How
to respond... This is a very common mistake, particularly for
students who speak a Romance language (French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, etc).
The student has probably understood that he/she needs to use a Past Tense, but
may well be translating from his/her own language. For example, in French, J'ai
fait (subj + aux + past participle) translates in some situations as I
did and in other situations as I have done. The student needs to know
that, for a completed past action with a definite time marker (yesterday, last
week, 10 minutes ago, etc) we need the Past Simple tense in English. |
