Dave
Sperling's Internet Activity Book
Without
doubt, one of the best Internet resources around for ESL/EFL
teachers and students. Sperling applies all his experience
of the ESL web environment to this excellent guide. The 30
theme-based activities (‘Find a Key-Pal’, information searches,
etc) are lively, guided and achievable. The book, with its
accompanying website, is as relevant for students as it is
for teachers.

Kids : A Young Surfer's Guide to Cyberspace
Ideal for Intermediate level
teenage ESL students, 'Online Kids' features great site reviews,
fun activities, and loads of information on important Internet-related
topics. Employs a 'kid-friendly' tone which will appeal to
all teenage readers. It starts out with the basics: "What
is cyberspace?"--and moves on to explain how to use the Internet
safely, how to choose an online service, and how to navigate
the Web. Site reviews, which run the gamut from the educational
to the recreational, are jam-packed with information and are
rated for both coolness and usefulness. When students get
tired of surfing, they can take a virtual tour of Washington
D.C., create a science museum at home, or try one of the many
other activities scattered throughout the book. If kids are
interested in chatting online, they should make sure comments
are received as intended by checking out the book's sections
on 'smileys' and cybershorthand. Great for use in class or
as a self-study/self-access resource.

Incredible Things for Kids on the Internet
Great for younger learner
ESL, this is essentially a collection of Web addresses (with
little commentary), that students can access through their
browser. The sites cover a considerable range of topics from
general-reference sites (including dictionaries, encyclopedias,
and almanacs) to specialized sites (literature, space exploration,
science projects, dinosaurs, pets, history, etc). Everything
is screened for kid-suitability, though the content of the
various sites appeals to different age groups.
